Correction for my previous post: one of my cousleor's names wasn't Kristin, I believe it was Kristine or Christine Van Houten or something like that.
I also forgot to put in I wonder how Maureen and her daughters are doing? I think they're names were Kiri and Ameeka or Aneeka? Maureen was a sweetheart and she there was a counsleor that used to look after the baby Kiri I don't remember her name but I believe she was Irish.
I also remember a lifegaurd or counsleor by the name of Eliza she was like the only one that didn't have a nickname lol I remember she had thick curly reddish brown hair.

I love Eagle Island!
I have no children yet but I hope if I have daughters they can have a chance to attend this great camp. I had so much fun and even though I only spent four weeks there in two years, I will never forget the people I met as far as campers and counselors. I had never left my mom for more than two days but I cried when it was time to come back. I'm so sorry to read that camp was cancelled for this summer.

I stayed at Lakeside my first time and I think Lower Hilltop the second time. I remember the second camp was not close to the dining hall at all. I've had Becca,Owl,Kristen,Zoe,Rock,Sarah and I'm probably forgetting some names(lol sorry) as counselors when I stayed. Do they still have the have the little store? I think they called it the trading post. Is Ro still the supervisor for the summer? What about Ginny?-those are the people I remember, they were there when I was there. Is Pete still there? I remember he had a dog named Roxy and a daughter named Emily.
Do you still have to wear a lifejacket or your swim cap around the camp all day if you don't flip your buddy tag?lol Sorry for the million questions but a bunch of memories just flooded back to me.

All my Memories of Eagle Island are wonderful. I have been extremely lucky to be able to share Upper Saranac Lake with my family, we spend a week there every summer It is Nirvana as far as we are concerned and I am heart broken to learn that the camp was quiet this summer.

I just got back from a camping trip with friends and decided to google eagle island since a bunch of great memories came flooding back to me. Everytime I hear the song "catch the wind" it reminds me of singing at the lake at sunset with all the campers and my best friend Erin whom I've lost contact with. Erin! Where are you?? I noticed there was a comment from "fish" and I remember her from sailing! I think fish may have even shared our tent at some point. I have some great pictures from eagle island that I could share.

Thanks for the memories. I have thought of you often. I cried as I left Mom & Dad on shore and cried again at the end of the season when I had to leave the Island. I remember the night runs from the boy's camp [probably shouldn't have told] We really just looked! The crazy stories we told about Bear and other animals especially to the younger ones. Thanks again and hope everything goes well so many more memories can be made

I smelled wood smoke this evening and it brought back fond camp memories. No campfires this summer on the Island, no fond memories being made either.

We hear great reports that work is progressing on Eagle Island by Jon, our new Property Manager and his helper.
A group of alumnae and friends have started a fund raising project to get a truck for the mainland for hauling supplies and other needs. Any leftover funds will go towards replacing our old barge which is no longer safe to load.

Many are disappointed about the non-opening of EIC: no work weekend, women's weekend, no camp.....hopefully things are being fixed.
The caretaker, I have heard, is a good hard worker.
With the work which will be done by him, a positive response to the offer of help, EIC CAN use the "tons" of campers and alumnae. They all would LOVE to help!
We can do it, and it can be done well.

I am just so sad at the news of EIC not being open this year. I have emailed council NUMEROUS times asking about family camp and work weekends and the only response I got was please check the website.

Please keep family camp attendees and former EIC campers up to date on the happenings and needs of the camp. You have many people out here that would love to help if we only knew.

I just heard about the closing of EIC for the summer of 2009 and am very bummed. I was a camper for 6 years (1971 -1976) and loved every minute. Let me know how I can help.

My daughter is attending the Young Life camp across the lake this week, and thinking of my times at Eagle Island has brought back so many wonderful memories! I can't wait to hear her stories of camping in the Adirondacks -- although she had a few more creature comforts than I had back in the day!

All I do is smile when I think about the times at EIC. I've been there as a camper, during Family Week, and as work weekender.

I am sooo sorry to hear about the cancel of the summer. Now, I have to tell my daugter that going to EIC isn't going to happen. She had to all planned to go wwith her Best Friend. Both the mom were EIC alumni as camper, at the same summers.

It is a sad disappointment that the girls are paying the price of the council merge. Why to the kids pay for the adult's mistakes.

So glad to have found this site. It brings back such wonderful memories of a magical place.

I am very sorry to hear that EIC will not open this year. We have been attending family camp for the last 4 years and we are disappointed that we will not be able to continue the tradition. I did not have a lot of traditions in my family growing up and Eagle Island provided that to me in addition to many other things. I draw on lessons I learned there often and was trying to impart EIC traditions to my son. He says it is his favorite place on earth. I happen to agree and hope that campers and family campers will be able to return next year.

I was the p/t nurse at camp last summer. I have sent dozens of e-mails that have been unanswered on working this summer. Now I see the Director job also posted. I think of the campers and staff everyday and it is very sad to have this unresponsive leadership. I was so geared up for work weekend, I so hope things get fixed so the kids can enjoy this wonderful place. All my love and best wishes to my coworkers and especially to the kids that now will always be part of my life. Lou

Eagle Island has a special place in my heart. I was part of the best staffs summers 1991-2007. I miss EIC and hope some day to be asked to return to EIC
