Former EIC camper Hazel Clark has made her 3rd Olympic team, finishing first in the 800 qualifying trials. Per the friendsofeic archive pages from the year 2000, Hazel's first Olympics, she was a camper in Lakeside and Sailors between 1987-1990. See many entries.
Gives us EIC alums someone to cheer on in Beijing.

Eagle Island is much beloved by me, as it is by so many. The combination of the beauty of the island itself, the Great Camp buildings and the spirit of the girls is priceless.
I wanted to let you all know about the upcoming Restore Yourself/Restore Eagle Island weekend: Thu - Sun - Aug 21 - 24, 2008. It’s another chance this summer for grown-ups to experience the magic of Eagle Island
The weekend is open to female and male, ages 18 or older. The cost is $295 per person. The fee includes three nights lodging, all meals, waterfront, use of the boats (sailboats, canoes, funyaks), yoga classes and special events. We will have a tour of the Great Camp buildings by Coulter expert Mary Hotaling and a Great Camp banquet, along with recreating some of our fond camping memories.
Volunteer opportunities for a reduced price may be available.
Funds raised beyond costs will help restore Eagle Island. Part of your fee is tax-deductible.
There is a registration form on the http://www.gscgehc.org/ website. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at jsahady ( at ) earthlink ( dot ) net
Come and experience the island in all its beauty!

I was at EIC from 87-95 (just writing that makes me feel old!) One of these days, I'm going to have to find all my old camp photos and scan them! I'm so jealous of people going to women's weekend this year. I thought this would be the year I could make it and alas, NOPE! Work. Does anyone know if they still do a "Friends of Eagle Island Day?" I remember it used to happen the last or next to last week of camp in August. It would be worth the three planes I would have to take to go then! Happy summer everyone. Gigi
Chris Hildebrand:
Gigi, I just returned from a fabulous women's weekend. Do you know about the adult weekend (coed) August 21-24th? New this year. sound very interesting.
They need registrations by July 1st.
I'll try to forward you the info.

I first attended E.I.C. in 1977 as a camper, and then went on to become a counselor. My sister attended from 1976( JoAnn Miller) I fell in love with the island the moment I set foot on it. I have two girls, 6 and 9 years old. I tell them stories of the wonderful times and friends I had at camp. I still sing them so many of the camp songs. I am hoping to be able to send them someday soon. My heart aches for the beauty of the Adirondacks. Love seeing familiar names writing in.

I came to EIC just last w/e for the first time. My friend John has done it for years and I thought I might give it a whirl. Everything was wonderful and except for freezing my butt off the first day and night, it was a great experience. I can see how this island can become endearing & special. I hope to come back and enjoy the ADKs again! Lisa & Ariana

I was a camper the first two years of EIC, returned as a waterfront staff in 1941 and was camp director 1951 & 1952, and again in 1955-1959.
I hope to be at Women's Weekend in June and to see many of my great campers there.
Eagle Island is a magical place. First because of the beauty that God created, and then with the G.S. program, it changed the lives of girls, and their leaders as well.
I have life long friendships from those incredible summers.
I can't believe my good fortune that I have reconnected with wonderful alumnae who still remember me and our magical summers, and together we can support our Eagle Island so it will be there for all to enjoy.

Hey y'all! Who knew I'd end up in the big city. Just missing my island home Hope to get back for end-of season work weekend. I wonder what ever happened to Marta Kober (aka "Fearless Fly") who rode the bus with me my first summer at EIC. (Our moms paired us up as we were both vertically challenged) That was a LONG time ago!

Spring work weekend is just over a week away. Set up tents and get the camp ready, see old friends and make new ones. Be the first to see the new service dock and slips.
Public TV was running a special on the ADK's last night and showed familiar sights. Brian Mac gave commentary about the 90 mile canoe race.

Hey all:
Thought I'd remembered seeing something here re: a celebration for the Island's 70th. Is this still a-go? Seems it would be a shame to let it go by without any fanfare. If anyone knows, could you post? I remember the summer we celebrated the 50th -- got rid of the stockade, major spruce up to the water-front and shower house, endless blue sweat-shirts celebrating said 50th, etc.
EIC is still so permanently lodged in my heart and (sometimes quite surprisingly!) my life. I work w/ Sunny Larson (and see her sister Nell often); Deb Steinberg and I were neighbors and occasional running partners in Prospect Park until recently; I was just in London where I saw Jessica Hudson (now Ground) and her gorgeous daughter Laura (clearly an EIC-er-to-be); I talk to Eliza, Mimi, Peter, Judy, Kathy, etc. frequently; seem to run into Jackie Liebman on random street corners in Manhattan; see all my old and now very grown-up, accomplished, beautiful campers taking on the world via silly Friendster/Face Book updates . . .
Best to all -- Ellen

I just pulled out an old binder with tons of lessons from Counselor training including Kaper Charts (loved to clean those Green Johns). My son is preparing to go to Sabattis (Trekkie in training)this summer and I thought some of those tips would be helpful - I found everything from Unit schedules, Youth Sunday booklets and even a Scavenger hunt starting in Hilltop. We truly had a good time with the Fish Patrol, Human Croquet, Polar Bear Swims and 3 Magneta Flamingos...I wanted to also give a should out to Meg Kreplin and all the wonderful people I met at EIC.

My grandmother ran the family camp program and starting at the age of 6 I started going up with her, my grandfather, and my aunts. There was a small group of us, Amanda, myself, and Jon-Luke and Jon-Luke's parents, his father cooked, Mike, and his mother, Rosemary, did arts an crafts.
If anyone remembers me or any of us from family camp in the mid to late 90s I would seriously love to hear from you!

Does anyone remember who won the song contests at camp in 1966 and 1967?
We are trying to complete the winners board in the dining hall and those are the only two years that we don't have.
If you know the songs, that would be great too.
Happy 70th birthday EIC

First attended as a camper in the "potpourri" unit in 1982. Sailing in 1983. Family camp staff 1985-1987. The painting of the compass rose on the Islander's Unit house door is mine. I've been back as a Family Camp attendee every since.
My memories of the Smith Sisters are dear. And, yes, I competed in the "Yon Far Beacon Regatta" as well as the Saranac Lake Sailing Races on Saturday Mornings. There was a whole contingent of us from Millburn, at one point.
